Measles Vaccinations Decline

September 23, 2010 14 comments

Health officials say that while vaccination rates for toddlers remain elevated, they are concerned about an overall decline in measles vaccinations.

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report showing vaccination rates for children ages 19 through 35 months, based in part on a 2009 telephone survey of parents of more than 17,000 children. More than 90 percent received most routine vaccines, and more than 99 percent received at least one shot.

But the rate for the measles-mumps-rubella combination vaccine dropped from 92 percent in 2008 to 90 percent – a concern, given a recent increase in U.S. measles cases. The rate for the vaccine against whooping cough also was down slightly, but health officials believe getting boosters to teens, adults and people who are around infants is a more important way to attack a recent whooping cough outbreak in California.

Flu Shots Are a Must For Pregnant Women

September 17, 2010 2 comments

We just read a little article on the universal request for pregnant women to protect themselves from the flu. As a provider of vaccinations, we were notified of this a few weeks ago and quickly felt the need to help get the word out about it.

This year may not seem as scary as the last in regards to the flu, but the requests to all pregnant women still stand. Any type of sickness during pregnancy can be a very bad thing and yield unfortunate results if untreated, so that’s why these recent requests should not be so surprising.

If you or someone you know is pregnant right now, have them contact us right away so that we can make sure they are protected from any flu-like dangers out there.

All you have to do is call us at Passport Health Orlando at:  407.902.9783

We look forward to taking care of you.
